Donate to plant a tree in African Forest

Help to build our gorilla troop their new home by donating to plant a tree in our new habitat, African Forest!

Your £250 donation could help plant and establish trees in our new African Forest habitat to benefit wildlife, people and the planet for years to come. You will also receive a bespoke engraved gold-tone plaque displayed in the new habitat and a certificate of support.

African Forest is the first habitat to be built as part of the new conservation zoo development at Bristol Zoo Project.

This will be the new home for Bristol’s much-loved troop of Critically Endangered western lowland gorillas; Jock, Touni, Kera, Kala, Afia, Ayana, and toddlers, Hasani and Juni.

They will be joined by Endangered cherry-crowned mangabeys in a UK zoo first for the two species.

African Forest will also become home to Critically Endangered slender-snouted crocodiles, Endangered African grey parrots and several extremely threatened species of West African freshwater fish, which visitors will be able to see in a special underwater viewing area. There will also be a learning and education space for all to enjoy.

Your tree, plaque, and supporter certificate

The tree species in African Forest will include:

  • Acer campestre (field maple)

  • Betula pendula (silver birch)

  • Corylus vellana (hazel)

  • Monogyna (hawthorn)

  • Dicksonia antarctica (man fern)

  • Fagus sylvatica (European beech)

  • Pinus sylvestris (Scots pine)

  • Sorbus aucuparia (rowan)

Your £250 donation will be acknowledged with an engraved gold-tone plaque in your name, or dedication name, and with a bespoke certificate of support. Your bespoke, engraved plaque with message of your choice will be displayed in the African Forest habitat for you to visit and enjoy for years to come.

Why not dedicate your donation to someone special in your life? It could be a unique gift, a sustainable birthday present, or a lasting way to remember a loved one.

Each plaque accommodates a message of up to 24 characters per line, with three lines in total.

All donations made to our African Forest appeal will go towards the creation of our African Forest habitat. If we are fortunate enough to meet our appeal target of £100,000, all donations over this amount will be put towards Bristol Zoological Society's conservation work, so you can be sure your donation is going where it is most needed.
